Fire Tending: A Hands-On Introduction

  • Sacred Grove Healing Arts Center LLC P.O. Box 182 Windham, CT 06280 United States (map)

This small group, outdoor class offers a practical introduction to working with fire in a safe and grounded way.

Together, we’ll build and tend a small, contained campfire while exploring how fire behaves and how to work with it responsibly. You’ll learn simple techniques for starting a fire, maintaining it, and moving around it with awareness and confidence.

This is not a ceremonial or performance-based experience and does not include firewalking. It is an opportunity to slow down, observe, and develop a basic understanding of fire through direct, hands-on learning.

In this class, we will explore how to safely build and light a small fire, basic fire tending techniques, how fire responds to airflow and materials, how to move around and work with fire safely, an introduction to coals and how they form, and how to properly extinguish a fire.

This class takes place outdoors in a small-group setting and includes hands-on participation, time for observation, and space for questions and discussion. It is weather dependent and may be rescheduled if conditions are not safe for fire. This is an educational experience and not a certificate or training for facilitating firewalking events, and all participants are expected to follow the safety guidance provided during the class.
